Nymphenburg x Ole Lynggaard Copenhagen
From Copenhagen to Munich: Jewellery designer Charlotte Lynggaard interprets her iconic designs in porcelain for the first time.
For the collaboration with PORZELLAN MANUFAKTUR NYMPHENBURG, Charlotte Lynggaard moved to Munich for a week to live and work in the historic artist's residence of the manufactory, founded in 1747. In close consultation with the local artisans, she explored the possibilities of the material and developed initial designs directly in the workshops. Over a period of two years, this encounter resulted in a collection that translates Charlotte Lynggaard's characteristic design language into porcelain for the first time.
"The week I spent in Nymphenburg was an incredibly inspiring experience, and I was impressed by the deep commitment that has been passed down through generations of artisans there. Porcelain has always fascinated me, and during my time in Nymphenburg, I discovered the beauty and versatility of the material in a new way. It was an exciting process to interpret familiar motifs – the acorn, the pea pod, and the Evil Eye – in porcelain for the first time and to bring them to life through collaboration with the artisans. Some of the pieces are hand-painted, and I worked closely with them to find the right colours, soft pastels, and a painterly expression. Among the pieces is a flacon, inspired by ancient Asian traditions, originally intended for storing oil. It can be worn as a pendant or kept as a decorative object. For me, it evokes a bygone era and radiates something magical and nostalgic. It has something delicate and feminine about it and also brings back memories of my grandmothers.”
Acorns, pea pods and the iconic Evil Eye appear as handcrafted pendants, flacons and sculptural objects, complemented by a porcelain candle holder. Fragile yet timeless, the pieces combine Danish design poetry with almost 300 years of German craftsmanship.
Also special is the connection between two houses with royal heritage: Porzellan Manufaktur Nymphenburg was once the court porcelain manufactory of the Bavarian royal family, while OLE LYNGGAARD COPENHAGEN has been a purveyor to the Danish royal court since 2008.
The limited collection premiered during 3daysofdesign in Copenhagen. It is exclusively available in selected OLE LYNGGAARD COPENHAGEN flagship stores and on the website.
The collaboration between OLE LYNGGAARD COPENHAGEN and Nymphenburg is more than a classic cooperation. It tells a story of curiosity, craftsmanship, and the joy of bringing familiar ideas to life in a completely new form.
