February: A Month Full of Emotions

INTERMISSIONS

In some places, nobody is surprised that since November, unicorns, Martians, and flamingos have been roaming the streets, enveloped in clouds of confetti and a dose of high spirits. Next week, the colorful spectacle will also reach those corners with a more Calvinist disposition. And that's not all. The day that's programmatically all about love won't be long in coming either. In short: February is a month for big emotions. Live them out!

PLEASURE
You don't really need Carnival or Fasching to get fun out of props – in theory. Without a concrete occasion, however, exuberance can sometimes slip away, which is why we willingly open the door when merriment comes knocking until Ash Wednesday. Why is it wearing a costume? That has a centuries-old tradition. The heavily abbreviated version: The roots lie in the Saturnalia of ancient Rome, a lavish festival where masters became servants and the people played their pranks on senators. This must have appealed so much to the Venetians centuries later that they suspended gender and class hierarchies at masked balls before Lent. The Commedia dell'Arte embraced this delight in playful role-play, where no one is who they pretend to be. That remains the program to this day. For a few days, everyone can be whoever they want: rebel, rocket, big cat...

LOVE
They say you have to kiss many frogs to find a prince (or princess). Lucky are those who are no longer compelled to chase after every green Kermit during Carnival, having already found love. February 14th is made for them, the day of lovers. Valentin, Bishop of Terni, married couples in the 3rd century against the will of Roman Emperor Claudius Gothicus and died a martyr's death for it. Courage and love are simply inseparably linked. Good thing that three days after Valentine's Day, the Chinese New Year ushers in the Year of the Horse. It stands for vigor, energy, and change. Those still searching for love will hopefully find the necessary courage.

ENTHUSIASM

At the Porcelain Manufactory, neither frogs, horses, nor princes are foreign to us. But models, makeup, macrocannage jackets? ELLE magazine photographed the fashion editorial "Stilwerke" in our workshops for the current issue. What can we say? Our porcelain is not only in the best company of Dior, Chanel, and Armani, but also complements the artful cuts and special details that Fashion Director Pia Léonie Knoll selected for the shoot. It shows: white is always in style.
