Nigin Beck x Haus am Waldsee

Nigin Beck's objects are intended to appear as though they have always belonged at Haus am Waldsee. Their organic ornamentation makes them feel familiar and almost decorative.

Only on closer inspection do the works reveal their complexity. Comic-like imagery alludes to the stories of Wilhelm Busch and to the figure of the djinn—an invisible spirit embodying both benevolent and malevolent forces. Beneath their initially pleasing appearance, a richly layered visual world unfolds.

The urns were created especially for the exhibition Wo ich wohne in the majolica workshop of the Nymphenburg Porcelain Manufactory.

Wo ich wohne (14 June – 27 September 2026) is the anniversary exhibition marking the 80th anniversary of Haus am Waldsee in Berlin. Taking the building itself—originally constructed as a private residence in 1922—as its point of departure, the international group exhibition explores the memories and many layers of this unique place through its history, its former residents, and its exhibition history.
