OLD TRADITION Once the freshly polished St. Nicholas boots have been plundered and the apples, nuts and almonds polished off, why not use the boots to trudge over to Nymphenburg Palace next Saturday? Here, in a festive atmosphere, the flagship store of the porcelain manufacturer will be transformed into an elf workshop. On this second weekend of Advent, porcelain painter Eileen Laubinger will decorate plates, bowls and mugs with monograms or names free of charge – a very personal gift that makes dreams of something distinctive and unique come true and will be fired in the manufactory by Christmas. We cordially invite you to spend a magical St. Nicholas Day with us again this year, surrounded by porcelain, pigments and the joy of cookies, where you may be able to cross a few items off your wish list. Nördliches Schlossrondell 8, 80638 Munich, 6th of December, 10AM to 4PM. |

OTHER PERSPECTIVES Advent is full of rituals, stories, and family traditions. Some let themselves be enchanted by the Nutcracker every year, others listen to the Christmas Oratorio. Family recipes for cookies? They’re traded like insider tips on the stock market. And almost everyone looks forward to a particular Christmas movie and sheds bitter tears at the hundredth rewatch of “Little Lord Fauntleroy.” While we won’t reveal the secret of the saffron–almond cookies until our next newsletter, we’re already sharing our personal film highlight: “Birds in an Open Cage” shows the journey a bird takes through the porcelain manufactory. Two minutes full of poetry and feather-light moments. Enjoy this glimpse behind the scenes of these wonderfully elf-like workshops. Lights, camera, action! |
