Double the excitement

SECOND ADVENT

Happy faces smeared with chocolate apples. Wide eyes when the city centres are lit up. Holding your breath when snowflakes dance, and waking up cheering loudly when there's enough snow to get out your toboggans, skis and ice skates. A quiet smile when fir trees, punch and stollen smell tempting. If you look closely, you can see the wonderful sides of winter, despite all the madness of everyday life. Look forward to a superb Sunday squared.

TAKE TWO
If you're not one of those Advent rebels who eat dominoes and gingerbread the moment shops start displaying their Christmas range at 20 degrees, then you're probably still in the mood for sweet kipferl and other treats. In our last newsletter, we promised a touch of Swedish baking so that it's not just golden yellow candles that shine at the Lucia festival. For saffron almond biscuits, boil 50 ml water, 50 g sugar and 1 g saffron in a saucepan. Allow the reduction to cool. Cream 200 g butter (at room temperature) and 150 g sugar, then fold in the saffron reduction with 175 g oat flakes, 100 g wheat flour, 100 g chopped almonds, 1 teaspoon baking powder and 1 teaspoon salt. Quarter the dough and shape each piece into a 3 cm thick roll. Wrap in baking paper and leave to firm up in the fridge for 4 hours. Preheat the oven to 180°C, cut the rolls into 1 cm thick slices and bake on a baking tray lined with baking paper for 12-16 minutes until crispy. We also have a few ideas for storing them, although they probably won't last long...

Decorated Christmas tree with Nymphenburg porcelain cups

TWIG GAMES
There is no shortage of inspiration for the Christmas tree either. Modern illustrations on paper, antique glass baubles, nostalgic straw stars or oversized velvet bows – the green fir trees are cosmopolitan with an open mindset, so you can hang whatever you like. In the factory, we decorate with porcelain, of course. This year, liqueur and espresso cups adorn our tree and gently refract the light from the candles. As you walk past, you hear a delicate sound, as if the little containers are blossoming in their new role as decorations and singing a song. Espresso? Until Christmas, we'll be drinking it from little cups without handles.

TOGETHERNESS
While the liqueur cups dangle peacefully from their velvet ribbons in the branches, other bonds are sometimes strained these days because the big Christmas tour is getting on everyone's nerves, because Greek exams are still being written for which no one has studied, because expectations are high and the desire to make everything perfect is great. For some without family, the absence of all this can be a burden. Our gifts for couples are an invitation to share. Invite someone to join you at the Advent table or leave a small gift at their door. A phone call or a card can turn sorrow into happiness. Those who have found their favourite person should remember that in relationships, sometimes you need to develop a thick skin instead of getting upset. Take a deep breath.
